THURSDAY

Leofwyna got up early today to get turned around for the weekend. To help her keep active and awake we drove up to Omaha to shop for cruise clothes. [She's going to Alaska on this summer.] We hit a bunch of shops and she found the absolutely necessary items and a couple extras then she treated me at Cheesecake Factory for supper. I do love the Thai Lettuce Wraps and the Pineapple upside-down cheesecake. On the way home we stopped in at Brass Armadillo and perused about half the store before her feet and our time ran out.

FRIDAY

We got up and loaded the van to head out for an event weekend. Before getting out of town we were distracted by a few garage sales. Leofwyne found an unusual wool Army blanket she'll make another chaparone from. We got almost to Nebraska City when Leofwyna realized her garb was still hanging on her bedroom door. Two hours later we were back to that point and any thoughts of stops along the way were tabled for some other trip. We arrived at our crash site in good time though so all was well.

SATURDAY

We went to Caleigh with our guest, Greg, and had a nice time at a sweetly laid-back event with perfectly beautiful spring weather. Leofwyna is really good with the patter about SCA so I let her fill Greg in on all the details. We watched the fighting, archery and Highland games, visited with their excellencies and eavesdropped on some Vatavian shenanigans. At the end of the day Greg treated us to a steak dinner at a place he likes before crashing back at his place.

I offered him tent space if he should want to check us out at Lilies this summer but somehow I doubt he'll take me up on it.

SUNDAY

During the odd free moments and quiet afternoons I've been putting random leftover scraps together crazy-style and I'll assemble them strippie-wise with leftover blocks for a donation quilt top.

MONDAY

Got out in the garden and turned over the four cleared beds and put in the potato sets and the big broccoli seedlings. I also mowed the verges and backyard. I'm letting the sqill and windflowers have one more week before I mow the frontyard.
WEDNESDAY

After a quiet afternoon I headed out for A&S picking up Sash along the way. There was half a dozen of us there with no set program. I had my inkle loom there working on a bit of narrow weaving and listened in on a lively discussion by Sash, Gerald, Zino and Natalia.

THURSDAY

Up a little early as planned and after checking the weather reports for the day (which was a trifle iffy) headed out anyway to pick up Sash and Isadora. This way Leofwyna could get a last few minutes of sleep before getting up and ready for our day. We planned one of our days thrifting in Omaha and thought to invite our peers along for the trip. We hit the five Thrift Worlds up there and then introduced them to our favorite viands both noon and evening at Thai Pepper and Cheesecake Factory. It was a great success and we had a wonderful time. We hardly noticed the snow and slush at all and had no trouble traveling either way.

THURSDAY

Today I purely loafed.  I gave myself permission to do just exactly what I felt at any moment to do and ended up doing very little.  When Leofwyna got home from work we watched the other DVD I'd rented, Wisegal.  It was okay.  I did strip samples briefly a couple times during the day but stopped as soon as my hands started stiffening up.

FRIDAY

We had a gloreously beautiful, sunny day today so when Leofwyna and I headed out we paused to scrape the ice off the drive.  Reports are temperatures got up to 64 degrees. We went to several of the thrift stores in town; Goodwill was having a $.99 sale and we wanted to take advantage of that.  Leofwyna found lots of stuff but I only found myself tempted by a couple of shirts and a treestand.  We went to Red Lobster for supper to celebrate my birthday.  I do love Red Lobster where I can get good snow crab and shrimp.
Back at home Leofwyna cooked for Saturday while I ran to the store for a few things she still needed.

SATURDAY

We took Christmas up to Omaha for our little sister.  We'd requested wild rice soup and cruditee pizza for the meal so Leofwyna felt she got off easy cooking.  We'd agreed to do only a few simple stocking gifts; I goofed as I'd remembered only the we'd agreed to not exchange presents this year since I'm not working and little sister has been unwell (makes shopping difficult).  I'd forgotten all about stocking stuffing and Leofwyna was a little put out about it; she takes holiday celebrations very seriously.  I'm going to have to think of something special for her sometime this year to make up for this.

On another note I'm delighted that Leofwyna will go to Twelfth Night even if the 'guest' bales as a check went out for feast this week.  Hurray!

SATURDAY

I've got my sleep cycle all messed up... go to bed and sleep 3-4 hours then wide awake so get up awhile util drowsey again.  Leofwyna waked me, wondering was I going to sleep through the day?  No, don't want to do that.  Helped Leofwyna put together the Christmas tree complete with lights and garlands.  She'll do the rest as the ornaments are her new cross stitch ornaments I helped her finish last weekend.  I also put in some time with the sample piecing and got another mission quilt top completed.

SUNDAY

Did get enough sleep but in two shifts again.  UP and get ready to go to Omaha, taking little sister Thanksgiving leftovers and running some errands and cleaning her apartment for her.  Was reassured that she hasn't been sick ALL of the past five weeks, just repetitive though.  That's still not good but not quite as bad as we were thinking it was.  Dr hasn't come up with a diagnosis though and that seems to be troubling him as much as us!

MONDAY

Woke up again after 5 hours; decided to get started on today's list and try to stay awake all day so I'll sleep FOR SURE tonight.  So here I'm journaling instead.  Bad me... back to getting busy.

FRIDAY

So... upon arising today I firmly set myself to preparing for the weekend making my list and packing and taking myself off to meet up with Calien and Asa at 5pm for the drive to Standing Stones for Charlemagne's Octoberfest.  We pulled into Asa's sister's place about 11pm to spend the night.  It was a camping event but the three of us in a compact car was just enough room as it was with no camping materials nor armour for Asa.

SATURDAY

Since both Calien and Asa were part of Her Majesty's retinue we were up early for the thirty minute drive to the event site.  Thus I was able to deliver the passports to troll before it officially opened.  The site was a lovely little park on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River.  There was a fine big pavillion for A&S during the day where the feast was served that evening.  Another large shade fly housed MoC activities.  There was of course plenty of meetings, cooking, fighting and archery.  I mostly stayed in the A&S area auditing the classes and working on my banner embroidery.

At court after various awards and event reports their Majesties were approached for the boon of inviting HL Finghuala inghean Fhearghuis to join the Order of the Laurel.  This was the same lady who had presented three of the four classes offered during the day and I was pleased with this announcement.  The vigil and ceremony will probably be at Crown Tournament in Three Rivers.

At feast I sat with Nicholas and Nina and had a most pleasant meal.  Courses were generous and tasty.  Most memorable was the delicately seasoned pork sausages with honeyed roasted vegetables and a honey-mustard sauce.  After a short session at the bardic session at the fire pit we headed back to our crash site before the real rowdiness began.

[Nina sent photos out on the Internet http://www.flickr.com/photos/31439502@N08/ The lady in the saffron yellow veil is HL Finghuala]

SUNDAY

Another early day but this one was begun with a nice stop for breakfast with Heather before getting on the road to head home.  We pulled into town around 2pm [a pleasant surprise as I'd expected not to arrive before 3pm or so].  Got home to discover Leofwyna had gone to Omaha for a movie and supper with our younger sister.  I got unloaded and unpacked and caught up with emails before going out for my own supper.  Finished the evening breaking down several more sample books and stripping paper from the poly samples.  Soon I'll be sewing up quilt tops for the ladies at home to tie off for the missions.

When I brought up that we were looking for a little lady cat to bring our residence population back up Calien thought perhaps her Summer, a Siamese mix, might suit.  They have a dog and three cats and this one isn't settling well with the others.  I'll bring it up with Leofwyna and we'll check it out.

MONDAY

It rained during the night and was promising more during the day so the proposal demo got postponed to next Monday.  Wouldn't you know, the sun broke out about 3pm and turned into a lovely clear evening.  Sure hope the weather works next week or somebody will be kicking themselves for this.

Leofwyna and I got busy this afternoon making a HUGE apple crisp and starting crockpot apple butter from Shelly's apples.  Leofwyna put together a nice tuna-noodle cassarole for lupper [mid afternoon meal instead of lunch] which we ate again for linner [a late dinner balancing a late lunch].   I stripped paper from cotton-linen samples until my hands were cramping... too much peeling and stuff in one day I guess.

When Leofwyna talked with Calien tonight we learned Summer wasn't declawed; that wouldn't be fair to Joseph so we're having second thoughts.  It would have been a good thing for Caleigh to be able to visit Summer here when she has cooking lessons with Leofwyna; what to do?

SATURDAY

Went to Omaha with Leofwyna and Odierne.  They wanted to go to a Thai restaurant there and Od had a money order to use at Borders.  We filled the rest of the day visiting 4 of 5 Thrift World stores.  I came away with three tops and a pair of pants in addition to various fabrics and a long-handled silverplate slotted spoon.  We ended at Whole Foods and I had a nice supper and read my book while they both went crazy shopping there.  As Od had bought our lunches I think I probably stayed under $30 for the day's expenses.

When we were settled in at home again we found the monitor was flippin' and I fear we're going to have to find a replacement as it's old and has the right to go belly up.  I was frustrated not being able to catch up on email and journaling.  After breaking down a few sample books and trying to sort the cotton stack I gave it up and headed up to read in bed.  Haven't done that in a lo-o-ong time.

SUNDAY

Called Mike first thing about the monitor... he's pretty sure the monitor or the card has died on us.  Yardwork this afternoon... Leofwyna worked on clearing the east part of the front beds while I started moving compost to the new bin.  After supper I came to CYT computer lab to catch up and register for this week's unemployment insurance.  Late night just isn't the same without the computer at home; I've been spoiled and want to stay that way, thank you very much!

WEDNESDAY

Today we headed up to Omaha to visit with little sister to entertain her while she continues her convalescence.   We stopped at Mangelson's first to get Leofwyna's embroidery threads replaced.  She's working on lovely Victorian cross-stitch ornaments.  She started these twenty years ago and is determined to finish in time for this year's Christmas tree, more power to her!  While there I found some fabric to add to my Nadelstern stash... again Leofwyna encourages me to get back to work on this style of quilting... perhaps this winter I can start up again.

Upon arriving at little sister's we wisked her off to Chang's for lupper followed by a movie, The Dark Knight.  This Batman action movie was long but held our attention.  Since we haven't seen the first movie we want to be sure to rent it and see how it developed this POV for the Batman saga.  Since little sister indicated she felt up to it, we joined her friends' birthday celebration for supper and had a lovely time meeting these ladies.
