How do you feel when an adapted film's story deviates from the original material?
That's a major button being pushed for me. "The Postman" leaps to mind; much as I like Costner in the role I can't watch that movie with the story so incredibly scrambled from the book. When I first saw that in the theater I drove my sister nuts! about it.
On the other hand, I'm really happy with the way the LOTR trilogy was handled even though they had to make major cuts to manage the length of it. They didn't muck about with the sequence and I was able to forgive or ignore other things they did to it. My only major peeve was how they weakened Frodo at the ford. That was so totally unnecessary.
