TUESDAY

With weather threatening we got out for some yardwork and I decided to mow instead of shifting compost. I was mowing just as fast as the mower could pull me along and I won the race finishing barely fifteen minutes before the front literally dumped a cloudburst on us. Leofwyna was proceeding down the west side of the house with her groundcloth and rocks project. She wasn't done but at least she was far enough along that her groundcloth was well secured with the first of several bags of rock. The rest of the rock will go down another day.

We were late getting back to computer and television in the evening when I found I'd won the decision for a bunkbed on the local Freecycle so we jumped into the van to go pick it up. Turned out it was a very modern style that doesn't break down into a pair of beds which I wanted it to do for tent camping. It was a very nice, sturdy bunkbed and I left it behind thinking someone with kids should be able to get it. I'll probably use Leofwyna's bedframe for camping at Lilies this year as it's much sturdier than my little white bed frame.
TUESDAY MORNING

What a wonderful weekend!  The weather was friendly the whole time.  The temperatures had ameliorated to decent summer ranges with mild to moderate breezes most of the time.  Leofwyna and I arrived home before dark Monday evening and took the ice chest and clothing tubs in, leaving the rest of the unloading for me to do this evening.  I'll also need to mow the lawn as the jungle is creeping ever nearer the house.

We'd carefully planned our camp to limit some of the load we'd take to something like Lilies but still have some of the lighter and easily packed bling to show off to the family.  We reached the perfect balance for comfort and to impress non-SCA folks.  One of the main comments by a couple of the 'uncles' was "All that came in that little van?!?  We only dressed up the generously sized mundane tent with our two beds, tapestry carpet, iron hook sticks, wooden director's chairs, glass-paned oil lantern, copper basin and brass mirror.   Otherwise we had the folding camp table, two ice chests, a few rubbermaid totes, battery lantern, flashlights and tiki torch.  You all know how much more can actually go into a van when careful packing is accomplished.

The fixes to my camp bed worked pretty well.  Only one middle slat dropped out the once and that during the morning when I sat down to put on my shoes.  I think I'll get a couple of those heavy black bungee cords to use instead of the single round, fibre covered one.  Eventually I'll probably have to remake the long sides of the bed 'cause that wood is cheap, flaky stuff but at least I'm set for rest of this season.

We camped near North Loup at the Davis Creek Resevoir with our step brother, one of the step sisters with her new hubby and her daughter.  Other step family members who preferred not to camp came and went over the three evenings we were there including our step mother, another of the step sisters and various offspring and other extended family I still have trouble keeping track of.  We spent the days playing Tough Toss or Tripoly and dipping into the cool, sandy-bottomed lake.  By dark we were done grilling supper and creating S-mores around the fire pit.

I arrived home only lightly seared but Leofwyna is well-done!

TUESDAY

I put the beef in the crock pot this noon with an onion and tangelo peel and the boiled down broth from the roast a couple weeks ago.  Did another couple laundry loads to finish up.

Leofwyna's up for jury duty for a couple weeks but she didn't get put on the bench today so we  worked in the yard this afternoon.  Anyway, I got the rest of the two compost piles moved into one pile back by the garden and Leofwyna seeded the former compost area to grass. She moved daylilies along the back property line and a truely sorry looking nubbin she'd purchased that's supposed to be a pink peony.  We'll see how that works out.

The beef with barbeque sauce, Bush's beans and corn turned out a great supper finished off with pears and some shortbread left from Sunday's potluck.   That beef was just as tender and flavorful as I'd anticipated.  Tomorrow we'll probably do the rest of the beef stroganoffed with noodles and mushrooms and the Byzantine peas left from Sunday..

I got the second linen quilt top pieced up tonight so now I need to find backing for them and decide if we want thin batts in them or not.  These will be summer camping quilts and not planned for warmth... more to prevent evening's moisture from settling on the other bedding which include wool blankets.
