THURSDAY

I pushed water really hard this noon for the blood draw and apparently it made a huge difference. At 2pm the nurse found a BIG vein and used the regular needle without a hitch. It still left a nasty bruise on my inner arm but at least it was only one poke. I stopped at the library on the way home to pick up the first half of Days of Snow and Ashes on CD as I'm very nearly finished listening to The Fiery Cross.

I've been reading Bujold stories, too, and am amazed the library doesn't have any of her work. I've got to take several bags of paperbacks in to trade and hope I can find more Bujold books there.

Can you do Interlibrary loan for Bujold books?

I'm waiting a bit to read the newest Diana Gabaldon. I love the series but have most of it in the trade ppbk and am waiting until it comes out in that edition.

Fiery Cross is my second least favorite of the series (Dragonfly in Amber is my least favorite because it is too heart wrenching for me.). There are bits that go off on tangents that aren't really necessary and just make it longer. How many hrs. of reading do that many pages equal out to?

Hope you enjoy the stories!

Oh, but her tangents are so realistic. And as far as I'm concerned, when I'm enjoying a book the longer it lasts the better. I do LOVE an extended and complicated series like this. I haven't gotten to read the new one yet, either. I haven't seen it at the library but I assume it's checked out solidly. I'll put in a request when I'm partway into Snow and Ashes though. I wanted to refresh my memory on what's going on as it's been a long time coming.

Heh. I hold on to my Bujold books. Though sometimes the compilations are easier to find, right now. (Baen re-released some of the earlier stuff two books to a volume). My copy of "A Civil Campaign" is pretty darned dog-eared.

Overall, I prefer her Miles Vorkosigan books. But the Chalion books are good, too. The new Sharing Knife series... comes off just a little thin in comparison.

Have fun!

I'm well into the second Miles compendium and looking forward to more. Her writing reminds me a little of Heinlein's who was one of my favorites over the years. I like the way she builds on her timelines and develops her characters. I hope she lives long and writes often.

Since I don't know the writer you all are talking about (but believe me, I will find out.....my curiosity has limitless energy, you see), I'm going to lecture you, Little Missy, on this water thingy I'm seeing here: You have to maintain a certain level of liquid in your system, you know. It helps things keep on keeping on. I have stern rules for my friends: You will stay alive. You will stay as healthy as you can so you will stay alive. If you don't stay alive I won't have this cool friend to type to, and that would suck!

Now, seriously: Everyone makes a big deal about how one should stay hydrated during the summer months; but staying hydrated in the cooler weather is important, too. And if they can't poke you with a needle and get blood, you really should drink a bit more during the day. Do it for me, the Vatavian down here who likes you? Okay? Pretty please?

I'm hydrated just fine. It's just that my veins are fugitive and I have to superhydrate before a blood draw to keep them bloodsuckers away from my hands!

Also, I discovered today that there are two Bujold authors. I'm talking about the one with three names, not two. Lois McMaster Bujold.
